Maine Part Two (remastered)

The second half of our time in Maine, Summer 2019. We visit Frenchboro and Belfast, go hiking in Acadia National Park, look for whales off Mt. Desert Rock, go kayaking in Seal Bay and have a great time during the second half of our time in Maine. Even though it is the middle of the summer it is not always warm – one day we have on our heavy coats and hats. However other days, particularly in the afternoon, it is “shorts and t-shirt” weather. We have one morning of sailing in heavy fog, but feel pretty fortunate that out of nearly three weeks of sailing we have not needed to sail in fog other times. We have fun watching seals sun themselves and chase schools of mackerel, putting on quite a show right next to the boat.

The Meri Crew
The Meri Crew: Travel adventure on the high seas, islands, bays, rivers, etc. with Doug, Mj and our family and friends aboard Sailing Vessel Frolic, our new sailing catamaran. We have moved on from our beloved 41' sailboat, Meri, but are still cruising to new places and experiencing new things. For 2024 we will finish up the Eastern Caribbean. Then maybe head north to Nova Scotia or Newfoundland again in the summer, or if things go well we may sail all the way around Newfoundland. All plans right now are still very loose because, well that is just how we like to travel and live. There are so many places near and far we have not been yet. Sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, kayaking, yoga, gunk holing, cooking, kiteboarding, windsurfing and wing foiling are staples while we are aboard Frolic. Other times we love water skiing, snowboarding and snow skiing, flying, knitting and other stuff.

Valdez, Thompson Pass, and McCarthy
Great adventures! We pick up in Valdez with some hiking and checking out the town. Then we drive up Thompson Pass and spend a few nights in that area. Finally we take "the worst road in America" to McCarthy and check out Kennicott.
Wrangell St. Elias National Park and fishing for salmon in the Klutina river
We start out our summer of adventure spending time in Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve. We get the kayaks out and do a little fishing, then move down the road to Copper Center to fish for some reds, sockeye salmon running up the Klutina river...
The Meri Crew heads to Alaska!
We are taking a break from the ocean. We felt like we had deferred a bunch of land based things we wanted to do and now is the time for one of those. We are spending the summer cruising around Alaska on our little land-yacht.

We had some great spearfishing and then some heavy wind sailing to finish up our season in the Bahamas.

We continue to enjoy our season in the Bahamas. Drew, Jenny, Ashley and Chad all came for a visit and we had a blast!
