BLUEWATER Ocean SAILING to FIJI.
Finally, we can say a hello and welcome back to you, while simultaneously saying goodbye to Finn, who is staying in NZ for the time being and hello to our new crew.
We didn’t sell the boat, so we upgraded a few of the important parts. Number one, the windlass (anchor winch). We have been carrying a spare windlass for four years after breaking the keyway (a small but essential part) on our very first anchor on our very first voyage overseas to Tonga in 2015. We decided there and then that we would buy a new windlass and replace it when the old one broke down again. It has been travelling with us ever since waiting for that moment having only now taken its rightful place in the anchor locker.
Another essential replacement was the mainsail. The old one had several years left in it (it’s for sale!) but the thought of trying to find a replacement in a remote location didn’t sound like fun so out it went.
We have also replaced our crew for the crossing. Stand up and take a bow Dan Bateman and Fiona Tarlton. You have put your life in our hands, we will do our best to get you to Fiji in one piece.
Music
Cricket Farm – Bending spoons
Lucious Szikora and Adam Barus – Muddy Water
David Mumford – Twinkle Twinkle instrumental
Jim Fulton, Jane Siddall and James Sutherland – Baby it’s cold outside
