7 Days Remote Ocean Sailing Adventure
Teulu Tribe set off on an unforgettable seven-day remote ocean sailing voyage from the Galapagos Islands to Costa Rica. This journey showcases life at sea, the joys of offshore sailing, and the beauty of blue-water cruising.
Pre-Departure Preparations
In the days leading up to their departure, Teulu Tribe made sure everything was in order. This included final provisioning runs, purchasing supplies at local markets, and ensuring all boat maintenance needs were met. Customs officials came aboard to inspect the vessel, emphasizing the importance of a clean bottom. The crew took this opportunity to complete additional land-based tasks and ensure the boat’s readiness for their adventure.
Setting Sail from the Galapagos Islands
The Teulu Tribe began their seven-day journey by departing from the beautiful yet challenging waters of the Galapagos. They knew the voyage would involve light winds and some weather challenges but embraced these as opportunities for learning and adventure.
The Equator Crossing Ceremony
Teulu Tribe embraced the tradition of marking an equator crossing with a ceremony. The team was called ‘pollywags’ before and became ‘shellbacks’ after their successful initiation led by Neptune, complete with eggs, flour, and a dip in the ocean to seal the deal.
Navigating Doldrums and Booby Encounters
Throughout their journey, Teulu Tribe faced challenges such as navigating the doldrums near Cocos Island and dealing with a sudden lack of wind. They were also joined by an unexpected passenger—a bird that chose to join them for part of their voyage.
Sailing Under Spinnaker
The team celebrated a beautiful stretch of sailing under spinnaker. They hoisted the sail on a night with light wind and continued to adjust as the conditions allowed, reaching speeds of 7.5 knots, which felt like the boat was flying.
Dealing with Booby Poop
In one amusing incident, a group of boobies landed on the solar panel, causing a mess that smelled like a hamster cage. The crew had to go out and clean the deck thoroughly before it became a major issue for their electrical systems.
The Joys of Offshore Sailing
Teulu Tribe shared the joy and peacefulness of sailing offshore. They appreciated following seas, navigating with radar at night, using their charts, and experiencing the simple pleasure of blue water sailing. This journey reaffirmed their love for life on the sea.
We are sailing 750 nautical miles from the Galapagos Islands, to Costa Rica. We encounter boobies, cross the equator for the first time and genuinely have a blast being offshore. A life at sea is the one for me! Head to https://click-and-boat.pxf.io/c/5354130/1989137/19914 if you want to escape the crowds and give sailing a go.

*About Us*
We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn't have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane.
However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on.
We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit
