We are building a towed inspection ROV to explorer the ocean 3000 ft down. Only a single twisted pair cable will connect it to the surface ship, so getting a working communication link was first priority. VDSL2, the latest standard in Digital Subscriber Line technology has impressively solved the problem, extending 40 Mbs Ethernet 1Km below the waves.
