Welcome back to another exciting episode of SV Seeker! In this video, we dive into the ongoing saga of our leaking boat and see Captain Doug make some significant progress in addressing it. Not only that, but he also shares a recent accomplishment – passing his Captain’s License test.
The video begins with the rainy morning, highlighting the urgency to fix our leaky boat. Captain Doug shares that he has attempted to address this issue several times before without success. He suspects the root of the problem lies in the control wire running through the base. This control wire seems to be heavily affected by dirt and cobwebs, making it difficult to diagnose and resolve the issue.
Determined not to let a little rain stop him, Captain Doug puts on his thinking cap and gets to work. He shares that the control wire seemed to be the issue, which he proceeded to clean up.
Captain Doug sprays some goop on the repaired wire and carries out a test. Thankfully, his efforts appear to have been successful as the leak seemed resolved from there.
The video also touches upon a significant milestone for Captain Doug – passing his Captain’s License test. Despite initially performing worse on the navigation and plotting tests, he managed to ace other sections. One aspect of note is that Captain Doug realizes he needs more ‘time days’ on water, especially underway under sail or engine.
Captain Doug explains that he currently has 70 days of sailing experience and aims to achieve around 90 days before upgrading his license. With the current license only covering 100 miles offshore, Captain Doug aspires for more extensive travel and is happy to have completed this test.
The video concludes with an exciting update about their future plans. With approximately 4 weeks left in Pensacola, the team looks forward to sailing up the Eastern Seaboard. Bob also shares his views on how experience holds more value than any certificate or paper.
Captain Doug invites the audience to visit their Etsy store and buy Build Rat t-shirts, which promotes Seeker Foundation, a project dedicated to mapping out the world’s oceans by 2030. The team looks forward to expanding their projects further post-Captain Doug’s upgrade.
In this video, we join Captain Doug on a journey of fixing a leaky boat while updating us about his Captain’s License. His perseverance and dedication to resolving the issue not only showcase his technical skills but also remind us that patience is key in achieving success. The episode concludes with exciting announcements of upcoming adventures up the Eastern Seaboard and an invitation to support their cause through Build Rat t-shirts.
