We needed a furnace that can cast 65 pounds of brass and light enough to have a home on our sailboat. With design help from Canfield & Joseph we came home with $400 of foundry materials. Add on $20 for two 55 gallon oil drums and $200 for a burner and miscellaneous parts and we had the makings of a great light weight furnace.
