I set the timing on my injectors without the CAT tool and my 3116 ran without problems for a while. But sadly, I had to replace 2 of the new injectors, and I broke down and gave it to a CAT mechanic to do the work. He checked the timing with the CAT tool and was impressed that I had set it without the tool. However I had to have done something to damage the two injectors. I doubt that I just got two bad injectors in the new set.
I since sold the truck and it’s been running great ever since for the new owner who couldn’t be happier. And I couldn’t be happier to have it gone. No more CAT’s for me. I can live with expensive parts, but not with a design that requires installation tools which cost more than the parts.
