Actually building a keel now. There will be two keels; one on each side. And they each have a wing. Twin keels help keep our draft down so we don’t scrape bottom going down the Arkansas River. They also let us pull up into a bay and sit upright on the bottom once the tide goes out allowing us to do cleaning and repairs. The wings will decrease roll, allow us to get the lead ballast lower without extending the draft, give us a bigger footprint on a soft bottom and might increase the efficiency of the keels by holding more pressure on the leeward side of the keel. They are considerably more work so we hope it’s all worth the effort.
