Most submersibles have weights that can be released in case of an emergency when there is no other way to surface the boat. Simon Lake built the original Argonaut Jr in 1894 as a proof of concept for the Argonaut I submarine. While the Argonaut I had the safety of drop weights, the Argonaut Jr did not. We decided that having a drop weight was a good idea. The anchors can first be released making the boat 220 pounds lighter, and if that does not work then we can release 1,600, correction; 2,800 pounds!
