Should We Stay Or Should We Go? The Ultimate Safe Anchorage in Turkey
As we sailed up from Bozburun about a week ago, it felt like finding a hidden treasure when we arrived at our current location. Tucked away behind a small island with a castle on top, this anchorage provides unparalleled protection from all directions and is one of the best places we have been to in Turkey. We are likely to stay here another 14 days or so due to circumstances beyond our control.
The Marina & Nearby Facilities
For those of you considering this spot, there are facilities at the marina that visiting yachtsmen can use. There’s a reasonable fee for picking up water and tying up your tenders. The protection is excellent; the Marina has security with gates and CCTV.
The Hotel & Restaurant
What really makes this place stand out are the on-site hotel and restaurant facilities. The food is outstanding, the pool is available for use, and the laundry services and toilets/shower access make it convenient for boaters.
Supermarkets & Local Amenities
The hotel, bar, restaurant area is just a short dinghy ride away, taking no more than 10 minutes. A Migros and an A101 supermarket are nearby, allowing you to pick up provisions without much hassle.
Migros in particular has been well-stocked with English food options and freezers that we’ve never seen run out of items. We even found bags of ice for our drinks!
Other Amenities
The local area is also home to a washing facility where you can drop off your laundry in an eco-friendly manner. Laundry detergent should not be put into the water, as it harms marine life and contributes to micro-plastics.
The marina and surrounding areas have numerous bins available for proper waste disposal, which is crucial to maintaining this pristine anchorage.
Nearby Towns & Entertainment
The city of Mersin is only a 35-minute bus ride away, while the closest airport at Dalaman is about an hour and 20 minutes by cab. Be sure to catch soccer matches (football in the UK) on TV in the hotel’s bar area for some downtime.
Visit local markets like the Saturday fruit market just a few hundred meters up the road from the marina. Fresh produce and local Turkish delicacies are abundant here!
Night Time Boating Safety Features
In our upcoming videos, we will discuss the use of navigation lights in more depth and show a video of how these lights can help keep boats visible at night. Some critics argue against their use, but we have found them useful in helping us safely navigate while staying safe.

The Verdict
If you are looking for a secure, well-equipped marina in Turkey with nearby shops and restaurants, look no further. This is truly an exceptional spot for sailors, cruisers or anyone looking to explore Turkey’s shores.
We plan on staying here for the next few weeks, enjoying the laid-back atmosphere that M has cultivated so beautifully in his restaurant-bar-hotel operations at this super safe anchorage. So sit back, relax, and consider coming here yourself – we’ll be sure to show you more of what makes this location special as our time here progresses.
Orhaniye, Marina, Shops, Hotel and Restaurant. All in a super safe anchorage! We have had to stay a bit longer in Turkey and use up some of our 90 day visa. We ar elooking after Patreon's Joe and Sarah's Blue eyes while they return to the UK for family reasons. Luckily we were not far from Orhaniye. Possibly the best anchorage for liveaboards in Turkey. Let us know what you think. 10% Discount on Hotel, restaurant and marina services for any of our subscribers makes it a little more affordable too. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid Enjoy the video.

Welcome to our channel.
We are now in season 7
In 2018 we left the UK to sail around the world slowly. After Brexit, a "Pandemic" and major heart surgery we are still sailing, documenting our travels and showing you what we have learned so far.
We are hoping to complete our journey, and travel right around the world even if we have had a few setbacks along the way. We will continue at our own pace and that may be fast or slow. We want to be sure not to miss anything and have stories to tell our grandchildren when we are old and grey.
