Testing Solar Panels and Navigation Lights Before Departure
In this week’s video, we carry out important checks on our boat’s systems before leaving Cyprus. We test the performance of our four solar panels and also check our navigation lights to ensure they are all functioning correctly.
Solar Panel Performance Update
We are pleased with the efficiency of our solar panels, which feed through independent solar regulators from Victron. Our Victron VRM website shows that recently we were producing over 3 and a half kilowatts of power at times.
The sun hasn’t been at full power yet, but the solar panels and our lithium batteries are working out well for us. We are in one of the sunniest places in the world, which certainly helps!
Replacing a Faulty Navigation Light Bulb
We discovered that one of our navigation light bulbs was not working. Upon closer inspection, we found out that it needed to be replaced with an identical Tungsten filament bulb type. After trying a new one and cleaning up everything around it, the problem seemed resolved.
Waiting for Favorable Weather Conditions
Despite all these preparations, we are still waiting to leave Cyprus due to unfavorable weather conditions. The wind needs to blow from the right direction for us to proceed with our voyage towards Turkey.
Summary of the Main Points Discussed
- We checked the efficiency and performance of our four solar panels, which have been working effectively with our Victron VRM system.
- The faulty navigation light bulb was replaced to ensure optimal functionality of our boat’s navigation system.
- Owing to the wind direction and weather conditions, we are currently waiting to leave Cyprus for a window of opportunity that allows us to head towards Turkey safely.
In next week’s video, we’ll share an update on our departure from Cyprus, as well as more details about the Pure Ocean filters that were sent to us for testing. Until then, happy sailing and stay tuned!

Welcome to our channel.
We are now in season 7
In 2018 we left the UK to sail around the world slowly. After Brexit, a "Pandemic" and major heart surgery we are still sailing, documenting our travels and showing you what we have learned so far.
We are hoping to complete our journey, and travel right around the world even if we have had a few setbacks along the way. We will continue at our own pace and that may be fast or slow. We want to be sure not to miss anything and have stories to tell our grandchildren when we are old and grey.
Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
We do have a second channel YOUR DRONE TV It is a mix of music from classical to blues, from Opera to Punk all with stunning drone footage.
