Leaving Turkey. Checking in to Greece. Will it go to plan?

Our epic sailing journey continues as we leave Turkey behind and embark on the next leg of our adventure—crossing over from Dass to Simi Island in Greece.

The Journey Begins

Ahead lies a 10-day race against the clock, as we strive to navigate through Turkey before our visas run out. Our departure from Dass is swift and strategic, knowing full well that each day brings us closer to the vast blue expanse of the Mediterranean.

The Final Moments in Dass

With just a few miles left in Turkish waters, we bid farewell to the familiar sights of Dass. The sun glistened on the water’s surface as we towed our dinghy, our spirits high with the anticipation of new adventures.

The Transformation of Dass

Dass may be small in size, but it’s a hub for boats registered under the now-defunct Delaware loophole. As we prepare to leave Turkey, these boats have dwindled to just a handful. Among them are Polish-flagged vessels, courtesy of companies exploiting this loophole.

Navigating Greek Waters

The process of checking into Greece involves a series of steps that cannot be overlooked. We first visit the police station to get our passports stamped, then proceed to customs. If we have an unlimited Transit log, we may skip this step.

An Unforgettable Experience

Our journey from Dass to Simi Island isn’t just about crossing borders—it’s an unforgettable experience that tests our navigation skills and leaves us with a newfound appreciation for the beauty of Greece.

The Magic of Monastery Bay

Upon arriving in Simi, we find ourselves anchored in the stunning Monastery Bay—a secluded spot that offers breathtaking views and unparalleled peace. With clear skies above and gentle swells below, this hidden gem became our haven for the night.

Next Stops

In upcoming videos, we’ll delve into the intricacies of navigating Greek waters with an unlimited Transit log. We’ll explore the rules and regulations surrounding cruising tax, how to secure it efficiently, and share our experiences in each new location.

As we continue our journey from Simi Island to Italy, Sicily, Malta, and Tunisia, remember that every moment is a treasure waiting to be discovered. Follow us as we explore these destinations, learn about local culture, and uncover hidden gems along the way.

Welcome to our channel.
We are now in season 7
In 2018 we left the UK to sail around the world slowly. After Brexit, a "Pandemic" and major heart surgery we are still sailing, documenting our travels and showing you what we have learned so far.
We are hoping to complete our journey, and travel right around the world even if we have had a few setbacks along the way. We will continue at our own pace and that may be fast or slow. We want to be sure not to miss anything and have stories to tell our grandchildren when we are old and grey.
Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.

We do have a second channel YOUR DRONE TV It is a mix of music from classical to blues, from Opera to Punk all with stunning drone footage.
