Tally Ho leaves the harbour!

After years of hard work, passion, and dedication from the Tally Ho rebuild team led by Leo, they have achieved a significant milestone by taking the wooden sailing boat out on its first sea trial. In this exciting episode, we dive into how this monumental event unfolded and what challenges were faced during testing.

Introduction

In this episode of the Tally Ho rebuild, we take a closer look at one of the most anticipated moments yet – the first sea trial. Following several years of hard work and intense dedication from our skilled team, Tally Ho is finally ready to face her element. Led by boat builder Leo and his remarkable crew, they are more than ready for this significant step in bringing this iconic vessel back to life.

Sea Trial Highlights

The first sea trial marked a historic moment, not just for Tally Ho but also for the team behind her rebirth. It is an exciting journey that began with testing the diesel engine and electric propulsion outside of the harbor in open waters.

Diesel Engine Testing

The diesel engine performed exceptionally, pushing Tally Ho at an impressive speed of 8 knots. However, the team discovered that they were over-propped. Over propelling occurs when a boat’s propeller rotates too fast in proportion to the engine’s revolutions per minute (RPM), and it requires adjustments such as changing the pitch of the propeller for optimal performance.

Electric Propulsion Test

An additional feature tested during this first sea trial was the electric propulsion. Thanks to its advanced design, it turned out to be virtually silent in operation.

Testing Challenges and Solutions

The team identified a few technical issues during their time out on the open waters. The challenge of being over-propped was one of them, but Leo and his team wasted no time in starting to investigate solutions to this issue.

Future Plans

In the upcoming episodes, stay tuned for more updates as they tackle these issues and plan their next sea trials. The passion and dedication from this skilled group of individuals is truly inspiring, and they continue to bring this beautiful wooden sailing boat back to her glory days.

The Significance of Community Support

Finally, Leo would like to extend his heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has supported this incredible project. Without their generosity and contributions, the team could not carry on with their work and produce these valuable videos sharing their progress.

The Emotional Journey of Rebuilding Tally Ho

For the entire team, this first sea trial has been not just a successful test of systems but an emotional triumph as well. Bringing back to life a part of sailing history like Tally Ho is no small feat and takes great effort from everyone involved.

Wrap-Up

In summary, the first sea trial for Tally Ho marks a remarkable achievement in her reconstruction. As we await more updates and challenges that lie ahead for Leo and his dedicated team, we cannot help but be filled with excitement to see this iconic vessel sailing the waters once again.
