Sea Logs Crossing The Adriatic – An Annoying Visit From The Italian Police And Biking To San Marino

Today, Sam Holmes continues his journey from Slovenia across the Adriatic Sea towards Italy. With a strong determination to push through any obstacles, he sails back to Pickle and plans to depart for Slavonia. He anticipates good north winds but is prepared for their strength.

Preparation

Sam ensures his boat, Pickle, is ready to face the upcoming windy conditions. He adds the first reefing in anticipation of strong winds while making sure everything onboard is secure. Despite having not done it for a few months, Sam manages to set up his sail.

The Journey

Sam begins the journey with minimal wind but perseveres as the forecast predicts an increase in wind speed. He later admits frustration over a misleading forecast that initially promised stronger winds but failed to deliver.

Encounters and Challenges

The journey does not remain smooth as predicted. Sam faces issues with internet connectivity for navigation tools, encounters oil rigs, variable winds, a lack of sleep, strong currents, and visits from the Italian police.

Final Stretch

In spite of the challenges, Sam successfully enters Italy and sails to Marina Rini. The journey, however, comes with a minor mishap due to strong currents. Finally in port, Sam deals with unexpected visits from Italian police who question his boat papers before allowing him passage.

Adventure Continues

Undeterred by these setbacks, Sam decides to continue towards Croatia. The excitement and thrill of sailing the Adriatic are not enough to deter him from his ultimate goal – biking into the tiny nation of San Marino. This remarkable journey is marked by Sam’s persistence and determination.

Enjoying Life Onboard

Apart from the challenges faced, this adventure includes some enjoyable moments too. Installing a new air conditioner, enjoying a cold breeze on a warm day, and experiencing the unique adventure of riding his bike to another country like San Marino – all these make for an interesting mix in Sam’s marine diary.
