New Engine mounts, raised waterline/ fresh bottom paint, sail modification, water jet boots and more

In this captivating episode of Sam Holmes Sailing, the seasoned sailor takes on a variety of boat maintenance and upgrade tasks to ensure Pickled Herring is in peak condition for the upcoming sailing season.

New Engine Mounts Installation

Starting off, Sam addresses a steering issue on his boat by installing new custom engine mounts from Oceanic Innovations. The old mounts had been in the boat for 20 to 24 years and were due for replacement. By closely following a step-by-step process, Sam successfully installs the new stainless steel mounts, which are of superior quality and better price compared to their non-stainless counterparts.

Fresh Bottom Paint Application

With the engine mounts sorted, Sam shifts focus towards refreshing Pickled Herring’s bottom. He removes old growth, raises the waterline of the boot stripe by a few inches, and carefully applies new International Micron 300 and black bottom paint along with masking tape to achieve a clean finish.

Sail Modification for Improved Performance

Unsatisfied with the current performance of his sail, Sam decides to make some crucial modifications. By consulting with experienced Boatyard neighbors Jim and Barbara, he gains valuable insights on how to alter the sail to avoid it from catching the boom lines unnecessarily.

Thrilling Experimentation with Water Jet Boots

In a quest for fun and adventure, Sam tries out water jet boots. He hires a professional Fly Board from Malta who provides instructions on how to use it effectively, allowing him to fly over the water in an Iron Man-like contraption attached to a jet ski.

Ready for Sailing Season

With all these modifications, upgrades, and tasks done, Pickled Herring is now ready to sail off. Sam thanks his community of followers and especially the folks who helped him prepare the boat for the sailing season.
