In this thrilling episode of our sailing adventures with Sailing and Fun, we set out to explore the captivating Morris Island Lighthouse. As we prepared for our expedition, we made sure to check all the essential factors such as tides, wind, waves, and currents, which were favorable on that particular day.
Upon reaching our destination, we discovered an isolated beach where no other people were in sight. We reveled in the fact that our determination to make this trip a reality had paid off and felt ecstatic about having such a beautiful island to ourselves.
As we neared the famous Morris Island Lighthouse, one of the oldest in the world, we encountered several mesmerizing dolphins swimming nearby. Two of them even swam up close to our board, creating an incredible and memorable experience for us.
The lighthouse has a rich history dating back to 1673 when settlers first established navigational aids on Morris Island. In 1767, King George III ordered the construction of a formal lighthouse. However, the initial structure was destroyed during the Revolutionary War.
Navigating around the lighthouse proved to be quite a challenge due to its location. Although our captain initially expressed reluctance, we decided to proceed cautiously given the ideal conditions for our adventure.
The waves and currents were surprisingly manageable, allowing us to approach the lighthouse with ease while enjoying more dolphin sightings along the way. We took advantage of this incredible opportunity by floating towards the beach, which also helped us avoid the shallows surrounding the lighthouse.
Mindful of our safety, we remained cautious about the presence of sharks in the area. During our exploration near the lighthouse, we noticed something breaching the surface of the water which slightly spooked us, causing us to recall our mom’s advice to be careful.
Local tour companies offer guided trips to Morris Island Lighthouse that include dolphin sightings, dropping off on the island, and various other activities. These tours range in price from $50 for a shared experience to $300 for a private excursion with Pelican Footprints.
In summary, our adventure at the Morris Island Lighthouse was both exhilarating and unforgettable. From spotting dolphins to exploring pristine beaches teeming with sand dollars, this experience was truly remarkable. If you’re up for a unique maritime adventure, be sure to check out these exciting tours that promise to make your visit one to remember.
