The Blue Water 56 is back for round two, and the factory left us a surprise. The anchor was sitting on the dock, the windlass refused to turn, and when I opened the control box I found the problem: the solenoid was never installed. Not failed. Missing. Something tells me nobody ever tested it.

In this episode we finish the commissioning. I install the new solenoid, fix the furler wiring that came swapped from the factory, and rig the ground tackle properly, with a full masterclass on anchor swivels, shackle loading, and lock-wiring so it never comes apart and never cuts a hand. Then the crew from Nance & Underwood tunes the rig in two days flat, and we get the payoff: the first sail of Hull #9, plus why every brand-new rig needs re-tuning under load once the construction stretch sets in.

We close with the full walkthrough: three chainplates per side, the old-school structure almost nobody builds anymore, some of the best stainless welding I have ever seen on a production boat, Manship hatches throughout, and an interior in white oak and teak.

25 People Vanished. Their Boat Came Back.

Five weeks after disappearing with 25 people aboard, the Joyita was found afloat and empty. Nobody aboard was ever found. The boat survived, leaving one haunting question: why did everyone leave her? Full Video: ๐Ÿ“— Get My Book:

A Broken Mast Doesnโ€™t Have to End Your Sail

A broken mast doesnโ€™t necessarily mean the sailing is over. With enough mast left standing, a spinnaker pole and a sail turned sideways can become a makeshift rig. Thatโ€™s one reason the difference between a deck-stepped and keel-stepped mast matters offshore. Full Stream: ๐Ÿ“— Get My Book:

This Could Save Your Marriage on a Sailboat…

Theyโ€™re called โ€œmarriage saversโ€ for a reason. Headsets keep crew from shouting across the boat, but hand signals work too, provided everyone speaks the same language. Figuring out whether a wave means โ€œcome forwardโ€ or โ€œgo backwardโ€ should happen before the maneuver. Full Stream: ๐Ÿ“— Get My Book:

This Bulkhead Could Save the Boat

A collision can flood the bow without flooding the whole boat. A watertight bulkhead separates that forward compartment from the living space, helping contain the water if the hull is breached. That barrier could be the difference between a damaged boat and a sunken one. Full Stream: ๐Ÿ“— Get My Boo...

Watch How Fast This Sailboat Goes Under

Once the hull slips under, this Arcona disappears in seconds. A broken rudder tube below the waterline can leave an opening thatโ€™s almost impossible to seal offshore, turning rudder damage into a fight to keep the boat afloat. Full Stream: ๐Ÿ“— Get My Book:
