Life after SPLASH: Sea trials and urgent to-do list! — Sailing Yabá 204

Welcome aboard Yabá

Life is truly afloat as we transition from being landlubbers to full-time boat life. In this latest episode of our sailing adventures, we’ll explore the essence of post-splash experiences with a focus on sea trials and essential preparations before leaving the shipyard.

First Morning at Anchor

As we lay our heads to rest for the first time aboard Yabá, moored securely near a welding company, there’s a sense of anticipation and wonderment in how our life will unfold from this moment onwards. With an ambitious schedule in hand, Ben and Loïc take on the challenges and joys that accompany new boat ownership.

The Start of Sea Trials

The excitement intensifies as we embark on our maiden voyage through water trials, aiming to iron out any creases and build confidence in Yabá’s abilities. As Captain Ben skillfully maneuvers the boat under the watchful eyes of Loïc and yours truly capturing it all on film, our viewers get a front-row seat to witness these formative moments.

Navigating Uncharted Waters

While Yabá makes her first appearances at sea, Ben and Loïc face the challenge of figuring out their new routine. Amidst discussions on safety precautions, one essential element stands paramount—preparing for a successful maiden voyage outside the river and towards open seas.

The Test Run

Our trusty dinghy undergoes testing of its 15-horsepower engine in preparation for life at sea. Despite past experiences, the team is hopeful that this will mark a smoother run compared to their initial attempt.

An Unexpected Gift

The generous act of Nigel from France adds warmth and excitement during our journey. A new hat gifted by Loïc sparks motivation and confidence, leaving us prepared to tackle even the most daunting challenges.

A Time for Celebration

Amidst sea trials, engine tests, and preparation of urgent tasks, we welcome friends on board for a night filled with relaxation, delicious seafood

💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.
