Episode 268 | Testing & upgrading our anchors
*Get the coolest UV shirt yet* → https://shopsailingyaba.com/products/super-cool-uv-top
We spent four years rebuilding Yabá to sail the world, but before heading up the coast, it’s time to talk about something less glamorous (but absolutely crucial): anchoring.
In this episode, we dive (literally) into how we anchor this 80+foot wooden boat. From our 50 meters of chain, to 200 meters of rope, to our three VERY different anchors (including two old-school designs you don’t see every day), we put our setup to the test.
Spoiler alert: a lot didn’t go as planned.
⚓ We also upgrade our system with a Mantus anchor swivel: https://www.mantusmarine.com/?affiliates=179
Come along as we test, dive, learn, and figure out if our anchoring setup is truly ready for the deeper anchorages up the coast.

🌎 *About Us:*
We’re Ben & MP, a couple sailing the world (or trying to) on Yabá, our 80+ ft wooden schooner with our two dogs. But this wasn’t always our life.
In 2020, we found Yabá abandoned, sinking, and on the verge of being lost forever. We had no experience in boatbuilding, only a wild dream and the determination to make it happen. We worked relentlessly, learning from the best local shipwrights and pouring everything we had into this rebuild. It took four years of sweat, setbacks, and unwavering commitment, but today, Yabá is more than just a boat, she’s our home, our biggest adventure, and the proof that crazy dreams *can* come true.
Now, we’re sailing into the unknown, exploring remote islands, embracing the unpredictable and sharing the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Join us as we chase the horizon!
