In this episode, we explore more of what Ahe can offer before we prepare to set sail toward Rangiroa. This requires some planning not only arriving in daylight, but to time this with the tidal water that can create some serious challenges at the entrance. There are no tidal tables to look at, so I use my sailing experience to come up with a strategy to find the best timeframe also this time. How I think about this and planning our departure is some of the things I share in this episode. I’m once again sharing some of my challenges with the steering system, and I’m getting tired of all the problems that come with any LEWMAR products onboard. If your boat has any products with a LEWMAR logo you have a serious problem, not only is the quality seriously poor but the customer service at LEWMAR UK is nonexisting. Luckily they have an office in the US that understand the importance of customer service. In the UK however, they just give a s#”$#”%
Why is everything so poor quality nowadays, and why don’t big brands and companies care about their reputation ignoring their clients? I’m getting seriously tired of all the problems and challenges that come from only one brand. I should start sending them invoices for my time.
This is really sad because Bavaria is a really good and strong boat. Unfortunately, they did not build the steering system themself, and some would not understand and sayin ohw Bavaria. Think again! Bavaria is not the only yacht builders that used out-of-shelf products from LEWMAR. The interesting part is in fact Bavaria spesified beefed up version. To me, it looks like non of us got what we believed. The quadrant exposed in this video does not look even close to a beefed-up version. I can’t wait to get the new parts in my hands to compare.

Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever we have time for it. I used to sail singlehanded and occasionally have sailing friends onboard. But now the permanent crew aboard BE FREE is including Gee from Holland. We are now exploring the pacific ocean.
Even though this is season 5 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I sailed several seasons in the Medetorian prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.

Sailing solo around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser - S/Y Be Free. Most of the time sailing single handed and occasionally with friends and other guests. Dreaming of crossing the Pacific singlehanded. Most of my life has been in the small coastal town Tønsberg, 95 km south of Oslo. With the national park at our doorsteps, and the Oslo fjord and Skagerak sea outside the windows, it was almost mandatory to own a boat. I´m almost raised in a sailboat and had my first by the age of 7. Not only did we spend 3 weeks every summer, and every weekend of my childhood, on the lean (Sailing) But my parents owned a boat factory, where they manufactured sailboats and smaller motorboats. So I think its fair to say I've been into sailing my whole life. MY LAST JOB Full time working for the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue, and almost 10 years as voluntary and skipper for the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue.
