SAILING AGAIN - SwT 186 - WILL I SET A NEW PERSONAL RECORD?

In this episode of Sailing with Thomas, we share a story that will undoubtedly leave you in awe – setting a new personal sailing record by covering an astonishing 11,705 nautical miles in just 12 months! From Panama to Bali, the journey was filled with ups and downs, challenges, and incredible experiences.

Setting a New Personal Record

In December 2021, I arrived in Bali after leaving Timest. It’s remarkable to think that this milestone marked exactly 12 months since I departed Panama behind me. Achieving such an impressive feat – the most likely to remain for quite some time – is a testament to determination and resilience.

11,705 Nautical Miles in 12 Months

In the past year alone, I managed to sail an incredible distance – a total of 11,705 nautical miles! Breaking this down further reveals some fascinating insights: averaging 975 nautical miles per month or an impressive 33 nautical miles daily.

Preparation for the Journey

In the lead-up to embarking on this epic adventure, I found myself in a unique situation. The area was incredibly developed with modern amenities and facilities that surprised me in such an unexpected place – a tiny nation right in the heart of Indonesia.

With some help from a local, I managed to find the crucial USB hub needed to get my computer screen back up and running. This development was essential for keeping track of vital information during our journey.

The Challenges Ahead

Sailing around the world is never without its trials, and this adventure was no different. While on board, I faced various issues with water makers, tender docking, finding adequate supplies, and navigating unpredictable currents and winds.

The Final Stretch

Approaching the end of our epic journey, I encountered intense ocean currents, challenging crossings with large shipping lanes, and breathtaking wildlife encounters along the way. As we neared Bali, strong winds and currents tested my resolve and determination.

A Moment of Reflection

Taking a moment to pause during the final stages of our voyage, I couldn’t help but reflect on what we had accomplished. As I enjoyed my coffee and looked back at everything that transpired, it became clear how far we’d come.

Preparing for the Future

As I reflect on this journey, my mind wanders to thoughts of the future. With a long-term stay visa waiting in Bali and friends eagerly anticipating my arrival, I look forward to recharging my batteries before tackling the next adventure.

Embracing Each Moment

Throughout this incredible journey, there was one overarching theme: embracing each moment for its full potential. Whether sailing at a slow and leisurely pace or encountering majestic wildlife, I found beauty in every experience.

An Incredible Journey

Finally arriving in Bali, it was worth all the challenges and experiences faced throughout this epic journey. We succeeded in setting a new personal sailing record – a feat likely to remain unsurpassed for some time.

The Conclusion

As this remarkable adventure comes to an end, we can’t help but reflect on the journey’s incredible accomplishments. Join us for more thrilling stories and adventures in future episodes – don’t miss it!

In this episode, I am setting sail again, this time toward Bali Indonesia. This is a 628 nautical miles solo sail nonstop, and it looks like I will arrive in Bali on the exact same date I left Panama 12 months ago. Meaning I can look back at 11705 nautical miles in the last 12 months.

Timor Leste has been such a beautiful experience but it's time to move on. My long-stay visa is waiting for me in Bali, and I also have lots of things to sort out. The weather window this time is just perfect and will give me a very pleasant sail for a change.

I cant wait to explore Bali and to finally get som rest and not having any stress with visa rules and scheduels for a while.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm a sailor with a YouTube channel and not a YouTuber. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it.
Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me.

Even though this is season 6 on YouTube I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 6 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
