HURRICANE JULIA IS COMING - SwT 116 - SAD TO LEAVE SAN ANDRES

Sad to leave San Andres and all the beautiful people I would love to spend more time with. Unfortunately, I was right the tropical storm L91 turned into a hurricane. So the only thing to do was to wrap up my things and say see you later. Normally I never buddy sail as it’s rarely a good idea. I learned a lot from this and gonna share this story in the next episode. However, need some more time to edit it together as I believe it’s an important episode with some takeaways I wanna share with you guys.

Not so much sailing in this episode but the next will be detailed about the challenges of escaping a hurricane together with another boat not even close to being sea-worthy and not a very competent crew. You can be the friendliest and nicest person, but the ocean don’t care about that. What you sail and the respect of the elements is whats matters.

I`m sailing around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.

Even though this is season 4 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor for decades. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
