In this episode, I’m trying to find the sail loft that I was looking forward to finding here in Bali. On my way, I bump into my Indonesian friend from three months back and even meet the sweetest family ever who tries to teach me Balinese language.
I met Ait and her family, whom I later found out are very friendly people. The daughter, also named Ait, spoke great English, which made it easier for me to communicate with them. They taught me simple Indonesian phrases such as “how are you” (pun) and even showed me around the island.
We had an Indonesian lesson together. Ait’s mother acted as my teacher, teaching me some basic phrases to help me navigate the island better. I learned expressions such as “I don’t have money” (sing), among others.
Ait helped me distinguish between formal and casual Indonesian language, emphasizing that the polite way is essential for communication. She said learning formal Indonesian first was a good start in understanding their language better.
Throughout my time in Bali, I met incredible people who showed me the island’s rich culture and warm hospitality. The family I stayed with during this trip taught me valuable lessons about Balinese friendliness.
Based on my experiences and encounters in Bali, I can confidently say that the people of Bali are some of the friendliest you’ll find anywhere. They went out of their way to help me during my stay and left a lasting impression.

So far on my 6-year-long adventure, I believe I have found the sweetest and friendliest people on this planet. Meet Astrid who's teaching me Indonesian and all the other friendly people I have met here in Bali.
I'm also trying to find the sailmaker I was expecting to find here, and even bump into my friend that I met in Tual. I am also sharing my first impression of Bali in an unfiltered and honest way.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm a sailor with a YouTube channel and not a YouTuber. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it.
Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me.
Even though this is season 6 on YouTube I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 6 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
