This is a very sad story that needed to be told, and to shine some lights about Andreas Sipsakas that vanished at sea en route to San Andres. I dont have the blueprint nor do I try to solve this mystery. But with the information I have tried to share what I belive and from my perspective what could be the reason. I spent quite lot of time with Andreas in Jamaica, and his dream was to sail from Jamaica to San Andres. We said see you later when I sailed to Columbia and he sailed to the Columbian island San Andres outside of Nicaragua.
In this episode Im also putting some focus on the piracy in the Caribbean, but also trying to share some thoughts and take aways for sailors hopefully contributing to increase awareness and safety. Sometimes its necessary to also put focus on difficult topics as this is part of the reality as well

Andreas and I had a lot in common, even trying to share our adventures on YouTube. Andreas was a very experienced sailor, and to my surprise he had travelled al lot! I dont think there is many corners left on this planet he had not visited and he had even been in Nicaragua and Honduras before.
Lots of piracy is never reported due to the stupid fact insurance rarely cover this. Therefore lots of reports is just theft.

I`m sailing around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now.
Even though this is season 4 on youtube I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor for decades. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.

Sailing solo around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser - S/Y Be Free. Most of the time sailing single handed and occasionally with friends and other guests. Dreaming of crossing the Pacific singlehanded. Most of my life has been in the small coastal town Tønsberg, 95 km south of Oslo. With the national park at our doorsteps, and the Oslo fjord and Skagerak sea outside the windows, it was almost mandatory to own a boat. I´m almost raised in a sailboat and had my first by the age of 7. Not only did we spend 3 weeks every summer, and every weekend of my childhood, on the lean (Sailing) But my parents owned a boat factory, where they manufactured sailboats and smaller motorboats. So I think its fair to say I've been into sailing my whole life. MY LAST JOB Full time working for the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue, and almost 10 years as voluntary and skipper for the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue.
