We're a Sail Boat not a Motor Boat... | Sailing with Six | Ep 27

In this episode you can see both the highs and lows of passage making. Catching an amazing Mahi mahi, enjoying the stars and phosphorescence on night watch, spotting dolphins and whales and then… over heating the batteries.

We joined the NC2V Rally so that we had the advantage of checking in to the Southern most island in Vanuatu, Aneityum. Although we had a safe weather window, we also had barely any wind and had to motor 33 out of the 35 hours that it took to cover the 222 nautical miles.

Even on a short passage like this one from New Caledonia to Vanuatu things can go wrong and with all the time spent running the engine we think we’ve cooked our house batteries with over charging from the solar and the engine alternator.
