Visiting Three Bays in One Day on a Small Sailboat in Australia's New South Wales Cowan Creek

Exploring Three Bays in One Day

In this episode, James and Rhonda embark on a day filled with adventure as they visit three bays within Cowan Creek, New South Wales, Australia. Their goal was to find the perfect spots for anchoring their 1965 Alberg 30 sloop.

Exploring Cottage Point

They first headed towards Cottage Point, where they fueled up and refilled water supplies. This was also a great opportunity to grab some coffee before continuing their journey.

Stingray Bay

Upon reaching Stingray Bay, they discovered that all available mooring balls were taken. Undeterred, the couple continued their search for an ideal anchorage spot.

Jumping to Jael Bay

Deciding on a change of scenery, James and Rhonda moved onto Jael Bay. After arriving and checking for available mooring balls, they were thrilled to find one free. They anchored their boat in this picturesque location.

Discovering Pinta Bay

Feeling satisfied with finding a new anchorage spot, James and Rhonda decided to explore further. They headed towards Pinta Bay – another charming Nook within Jael Bay. Here they enjoyed the stunning views and even cooked up some delicious mushroom risotto for dinner.

The Day’s Highlights

Their day was filled with excitement, including
– Spotting a super yacht while searching for an anchorage spot
– Witnessing dragon-like birds (caraang carawa or kowang) making peculiar noises
– Observing a monitor lizard during their hike
– Enjoying the beauty of sunrise in foggy weather
– Going on a bioluminescent dinghy adventure at night
James and Rhonda concluded that their favorite moments included picking up mooring balls without any issue, experiencing a rare sighting of an endangered species, and having wonderful hikes. These adventures were made even more special due to the picturesque surroundings.

Planning for the Next Day

As their day drew to a close, James and Rhonda looked forward to visiting another destination – Refuge Bay. They were eager to see an alleged endless infinity pool formed by a waterfall, as well as some aboriginal rock carvings or paintings.

Reflections on the Day

This episode showcased how determined and adventurous James and Rhonda are in their pursuit of new locations and experiences. It also highlighted their resourcefulness, despite facing challenges like taken mooring balls at Stingray Bay.

Episode 369 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia

Hello Friends,
On this episode we awake in the fog at Twilight Inlet surrounded by birdsong, once the morning sun cleared the way we headed out to explore more of Cowan Creek. After getting fuel and water at Cottage Point, we enjoyed a slow sail amidst the chaos of the weekend boat (and plane) traffic and spend the day bay hoping to see as much as we could.
