Seeing Wild Wallabys in Australia after Visiting a Waterfall and Soaking In Clifftop Pools

Hello friends my name is James and this is my 1965 Alberg 30 Sloop SV Triteia. I have been slowly sailing solo around the world since leaving Los Angeles in 2021. This is Ronda, a kiwi sailor who moved aboard full-time once I reached Sydney.

Join us as we explore the East Coast of Australia and see as many wild places and wild animals as possible just down in here. As we make our way up to Southeast Asia, we had a very peaceful night last night being up in sounds and like deep deep coves like this makes for very good sleeping conditions.

Night at Pinta Bay

We got up before the sun, threw some granola out and fed the fish. Then we went on a dinghy drive to look around before heading out to Refuge Bay for some real adventure today. Pinta Bay has been a very nice little place for us to just stop and rest.

Stingrays in the Clear Water

Another exploration mission. The morning is beautiful. We’ve been up since 5 minutes past 5 AM, and as we looked into the water to explore potential life down there, Ronda spotted a stingray.

Explore Refuge Bay and America Bay

We picked up a mooring at Refuge Bay, adjacent to America Bay where we stayed the first night. Public moorings are available for free in both these bays. They have about 200 mooring balls between club moorings and courtesy moorings.

Discovering the Waterfall

We decided to find a waterfall with Aboriginal rock carvings and an infinity pool. We saw some people enjoying the beach and waterfall, which was pretty high compared to others we’d seen in Australia so far.

Hiking Trail

Along our exploration of the area, we came across a hiking trail. While climbing through the forest, we discovered some cave paintings that were really cool and quite spooky!

Finding an Infinity Pool

At last, we found a pool with crystal-clear water and stunning views. Although it was not as large as we had expected due to the lower volume of water, it was still amazing.

Cruising to Coasters Retreat

After visiting seven different locations in Cowen Creek, we picked up a slip at the marina for a few days to provision and enjoy some standup showers before heading back out to Coaster’s Retreat.

Sinking Ship on a Mooring

At Coasters Retreat, we saw a sinking ship on a mooring with a strange mask-like feature. It appeared to have weights or anchors on the bottom.

National Park Exploration

At Coasters Retreat National Park, we came across a variety of unique birds and marsupials, including the very cute and fluffy wallabies!

Lush Campground Facilities

The campground facilities in the park were fully equipped with sinks for handwashing, fire rings, power banks and sunscreen stations.

Ice Cream for Dinner?

The park offered a variety of food items like ice cream that you could even pay with card! It was an ideal spot to chill out and enjoy the views while taking shelter from incoming weather.

Throughout our adventures, we had many moments that stood out as being really special. The wallabies, unique birds, hiking trails, caves, waterfall, and the hidden infinity pool all left a lasting impression on us during our time in this area.

Conclusion

We thoroughly enjoyed exploring these beautiful bays, discovering hidden gems and finding unique wildlife. Neither of us had done a lot of reading on the destinations before heading there; we preferred to trust our instincts and make decisions as we went along.
