Sailing Vessel Triteia - Sailing from Catalina Island on New Years Day with a Dolphin escort

| Season 2 | Episode 24 |

On this episode Meital arrives from the mainland by way of the Catalina Express. We explore Two Harbors and ring in the New Year in old person fashion and push off to sail home on New Years day.

We had the pleasure of sailing through a massive pod of dolphins that stretched as far as the eye could see and some played at our bow in classic dolphin style.

I attempted a drone flight and lost my new DJI Phantom 3SE drone into the sea. A super bummer but I am glad it happened on the way home and not at the beginning of my trip.

As the winds picked up we buried the rails and sailed all the way in, past the lighthouse and down the channel finally coming home to tie up after 9 days at sea and on the hook.

I explored 7 different anchorages, 6 on the hook and 1 on a mooring. Sailed more than 200 nautical miles and had one of the most amazing weeks of my life.

Thanks everyone for watching this series, I was excited to share it with you all and look forward to sharing the next big adventure series with you later this summer when I sail in Sweden and Finland for 2+ weeks in June.

Until then I have a number of videos in the line up which include boat tours of friends boats & throwback project videos of me preparing for this trip.

The last week of 2017 I took an amazing solo sailing trip to the Channel Islands. I visit six anchorages on Santa Cruz Island before sailing for Catalina Island and tying up in Isthmus Cove for New Years Eve. We sailed back on New Years Day enjoying sunshine, great wind and thousands of dolphins.

While I was on my trip I started my first podcast and the first episode is up online now. The podcast is titled “A STERN VIEW” and is something of a cruising guide to anchorages and sailing destinations. Each episode is recorded on location and I cover everything I know about the anchorage from my research and experience at the anchorage.

I also kept a journal in my logbook and will be posting them as a blog with still photos. This will act as support to the A STERN VIEW podcast as will each new video episode that features the anchorage covered in the podcast episodes.

The journal and Podcast can be seen and heard here: http://svtriteia.com

My main go to guidebook for this trip was “Cruising Guide to Southern California’s Offshore Islands: With Sailing Directions for the Santa Barbara Channel’s Mainland Coast” by Brian Fagen which can be found here : http://amzn.to/2HOxAU1

If you like the podcast please subscribe to it on iTunes and rate / review it as it helps in the ratings! Please reach “A Stern View” in iTunes!

I have started a new short video series titled Sea Stories that are only available for my Patrons. If you would like to contribute you can do so here https://www.patreon.com/sailorjames
