BONUS VIDEO: Making winch bases from a discarded timber from the USS Highland Light (IX-48)

Hello Friends,

This is a “Friday Bonus” video! In this episode I show you how I made our new winch bases from a rescued piece of timber from the famous sailing yacht USS Highland Light (IX-48) (R.I.P.)

The large chunk of laminated white oak that had been part of the ship for almost a hundred years was heavy and awkward to work with and just a little too big for my tools. I show you how I dealt with this obstacle and how to “round” a block of wood using a chop saw when you don’t have a big enough bandsaw or its too much for a jigsaw.
