Anchoring Amongst Skyscrapers in Downtown Brisbane and Riding South Bank's Brisbane Wheel

Anchoring Amongst Skyscrapers in Downtown Brisbane and Riding South Bank’s Brisbane Wheel with Sailing Triteia

James, sailing solo around the world aboard his 1965 Alberg 30 sloop SV Triteia, has been making stops along the East Coast of Australia to explore wild places and animals with his friend Rhonda. After a productive day in Brisbane, including boat projects and filming for Rhonda’s channel, they plan to anchor in the central business district, by all the big buildings just past the Story Bridge. One main reason for their stop is waiting for Rhonda’s new glasses.

Passing Bridges and Entering Downtown Brisbane

The duo passes underneath a bridge, with James expressing that it can be a bit scary going under bridges that are pretty tall. They make their way through the river, eventually finding a tight little anchorage near a new walk bridge. It is evident online that boats with pretty tall masts on the other side of the river are currently trapped on that side due to the construction.

Anchoring Amidst Skyscrapers

They find themselves anchored in approximately 13 feet of water with a four scope and learn that the bridge’s height will be around 12.6 meters at low tide. James notes that it would be interesting to see the scene at nighttime, as there is a dinghy dock right under the bridge at a Botanical Garden.

Exploring Downtown Brisbane

The day proves to be productive as they go out in the morning for breakfast ashore, explore the central business district area, work on some boat projects, and film for Rhonda’s love grub channel.

Enjoying the Golden Hour

The pair decides to head up the river during the beautiful golden hour light. They take their dinghy out to show viewers what they see along the way, such as a few little hangout spots that are built differently and look unique.

South Bank’s Brisbane Wheel

James mentions that this is probably their last big city for a while, as Singapore will be the next notable one. They admit that cities are not necessarily their thing, but the bridges and scenes are impressive.

Riding the Brisbane Wheel

At South Bank, James and Rhonda ride the Brisbane Wheel. Rhonda has been on it before but finds it amusing as it operates like a gondola. They enjoy the view and even consider taking another ride after disembarking.

Exploring South Bank

The pair walks along a path called the rainforest walk, admiring the beautiful views and water features. They discuss that this area is called South Bank and decide to have dinner there before enjoying some ice cream by the river.

Final Thoughts

As they sit by the river, James thanks viewers for watching and mentions that if they enjoy the content on his channel, they can consider joining the Patreon crew. This marks a special stop in their world sailing adventure where they got to experience city life before continuing on their journey.

Episode 379 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia

Hello Friends,
On this episode we haul up anchor and make our way under the famous Story Bridge to anchor in Brisbane's CBD. It's so surreal to see Triteia anchored with skyscrapers towering above her! After spending so many nights anchored in remote anchorages it's fun to anchor in the middle of a big city for a short stay!

We loved Brisbane! It as great to explore the city and to head over to South Bank and ride on the Brisbane Wheel!
