2022 was probably the year we did the biggest upgrades to the boat. We added air conditioning, replaced the standing rigging, replaced our galley countertops and gimballing stove, bought a new dinghy, and of course upgraded the battery bank.
For Talisman, this was a huge upgrade. Not only do these batteries hold their charge better than our old Trojan gel batteries, but the rated amp hours went from 280Ah to 840Ah. We have so much extra capacity that it’s nothing short of amazing. And it all fits in the same battery box! Lots of learning here.

We travel halfway around the island of Antigua, part of the Leeward Islands/Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean, to be there in Falmouth Harbour for the start of the RORC 600 sailboat race. As it turned out, this was also ground zero for more expensive boats and yachts than we could shake a stick at. I...

We’re not the drama channel. But this time was real … and not good. I tell the story in the video, but the short version is that last summer I was diagnosed with a form of tongue/throat cancer. It’s not the rarest form, but it was caught very late in the game, after the tumor had grown to be 2.5cm ...

This is always the big moment of truth. Will she si...
Ep 184 Offshore Passage and Liveaboard Prep
What does it take to prep for extended passagemaking and the liveaboard lifestyle? A lot of hard work, that’s what! And plenty of time spent sourcing all the parts we either broke or need to upgrade. In this episode we focus on electrical system repairs and upgrades, installation of a new Gen3 Star...
Ep 183 Why Did We Re-Index Our MaxProp Feathering Prop?
Why would you want or need to re-index your feathering prop? In our case, we’ve been living with limitations on engine RPMs. Specifically, when motoring we couldn’t go above 2,000 RPMs or the engine would start to heat up. Staying below 2,000 worked fine, but it isn’t how the boat was delivered. O...
