Ep 117 More Failproofing for Talisman

Failproofing is an elusive thing. No way to ever fully failproof a boat, but we do what we can. In this episode we repair our masthead deflector, which blasted off the mast during some higher wind testing of the boat. This failure was clearly the result of our riggers not taking the job seriously enough, and that’s something we fight against constantly whenever we outsource work. We also do an engine belt inspection, discovering a belt that was in the process of letting go. Our outhaul, the line that pulls the sail out of the mast and controls the power of the sail itself, also ruptured and getting ready to break. Finally, just when we think we have things under control, our windless freezes up. Disassembly shows completely seized bearings that require the assistance of a machine shop. Never a dull moment!
