No YouTuber Has Dared to Visit This Dangerous Atoll — Until Now! [Ep. 158]

The Remote Island of Amanu: An Unforgettable Journey

Located in the heart of French Polynesia, the island of Amanu is a gem hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the world. With its pristine beaches and lush palm tree forests, it’s easy to see why people would want to visit this secluded paradise. A Manu Island Overview Accessible by air or sea, Amanu is situated in the Southeast region of the Tuamotus archipelago. At about 560 miles east of Tahiti, it’s a bit of a journey to reach this remote paradise. Its small population of only 200 people live in traditional homes made from local materials and follow customs that have been passed down through generations. The Unique Challenges of Amanu While the island may look inviting, there are dangers lurking beneath its surface. Its unique geography means that it has no hills to protect residents from strong winds, making living conditions more challenging. The Reef surrounding the Motu does provide protection from waves and swell, but there are other risks to consider. The Importance of Preparation Before arriving at Amanu, it’s crucial to plan accordingly. With few large fishing vessels visiting the island and its remote location, food supply can be limited. Residents rely on coconut palm trees for sustenance, but newcomers need to respect this dependency. Exploring Amanu’s Rich Cultural Heritage While visiting Amanu may be rare, the local residents welcome travelers who come with an open heart and respect for their traditions. In addition to learning about the traditional methods of weaving palm leaves into thatch roof houses, visitors can also partake in coconut harvesting. The Importance of Preserving Culture and Nature As cruisers continue to visit Amanu, it’s essential for all involved to respect the delicate balance between modern conveniences and preserving local customs. While a few sailors may unknowingly cut down coconut trees for easier access, others come bearing gifts of fresh fruit from nearby islands. The Wonders of Amanu’s Underwater World Amidst the challenges that lie on land, one cannot ignore the underwater treasures Amanu holds. Diverse fish species like octopus and sharks share space with the vibrant Chimaera Maxima clam beneath its azure waters. Living Life to the Fullest at Amanu The residents of Amanu have found ways to adapt and make the most out of what nature has provided for them. Despite facing harsh winds, they still celebrate life in their simple but beautiful homes constructed with local materials. A Manu is an island like no other – a true testament to human resilience. Embrace the Unforgettable Experience at Amanu In this corner of paradise, you’ll find yourself surrounded by beauty that’s both alluring and treacherous. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor seeking adventure or an explorer looking for peace in a remote oasis, make sure to visit Amanu while following the golden rule of respecting its unique way of life. Go sailing with with us to Amanu Atoll, part of the Tuamotus Archipelago (Dangerous Islands) in the remote South Pacific country of French Polynesia. We are the first YouTube sailing channel to visit this place where very few boats venture. It is well off the beaten path and the lagoon of the atoll is uncharted and full of dangerous bommies (coral heads). It does however offer a view of life that is rarely seen. An amazing untouched underwater habitat and islanders which still make straw huts and life off of coconut farming!

After a tough 500+ mile sail racing against a catamaran, we relax a bit and enjoy the Polynesian lifestyle on a dreamy deserted island! We take our sailboat, Sweet Ruca, to these remote places to make amazing sailing videos for you!
