CIRCUMNAVIGATING WHIDBEY ISLAND (Attempt 1) | Sailing SV Indigo Ep. 6

As with any well-laid-out plan, you need to have a back-up plan. And in our case, a “Plan C”. In sailing, things never quite go according to plan.

Follow us as we attempt to sail around Washington’s Whidbey Island, the state’s largest and the contiguous U.S.’s fourth-largest island covering 168 square miles. Originally inhabited by native peoples, the island was first explored by Captain George Vancouver aboard the famous HMS Discovery in 1792. Vancouver named the island and waterway after fellow officers aboard his ship, Joseph Whidbey, and Peter Puget (namesake of “Puget Sound”).

On our expedition, we explore the towns of Langley and Edmonds, sail through Puget Sound, Possession Sound, Saratoga Passage and Holmes Harbor, golf along the way at Holmes Harbor Golf Course, and encounter some unexpected conditions — prompting execution of “Plan C”.
