Sailing enthusiasts SV Cuba recently found themselves in a precarious situation while attempting one of the most challenging passages in the Caribbean – the Anegada Passage. Their sailboat experienced issues which ultimately led them to seek an emergency stop in Puerto Rico.
The crew was heading from the Bahamas to the British Virgin Islands when they encountered trouble. A 52-knot squall caused both of their sails to break and injured one of the members in the process. Despite the adversity, they continue to press on with the journey.
Realizing the severity of their situation, the SV Cuba crew sought out an emergency stop in Puerto Rico to assess and address the damage. With permission from the Coast Guard, they are taking a 24-48 hour break to regroup.
The distance remaining between them and the British Virgin Islands is approximately 40 miles, but they still need to get their boat back in working order first. With a broken inverter onboard, charging any electronic devices has been a struggle. However, they remain optimistic about making it through this challenging experience.
