HOW TO: Repair Rudder Bearings on a Sailboat, SAVING YOU MONEY! | Sailing Sunday | Ep.165
Hey Guys!
This week our friends were about to purchase new rudder bearings for HUNDREDS of dollars and lift out for a week to do a rudder bearing replacement as their steering became stiff! As I have done this before, I helped advise them to hang in the slings and just repair their rudder bearings saving them tonnes money! So this week I take you through a very detailed guide on how to replace, or repair, your rudder bearing in a Beneteau Oceanis sailboat!
This rudder bearing system would be the same for all spade rudders, Beneteau, Jeanneau, Bavaria, Hanse etc with some minor differences. But first, lets go check out an abandoned resort that was hit by Hurricane Irma 5yrs ago here in St Martin before we lift out for 1 day, to do the rudder bearing replacement 🤙
