Finding PARADISE in the Bahamas | Sailing Sunday | Vlog: 245

Welcome to our latest episode, where we set sail for the stunningly beautiful Exumas, a jewel of the Bahamian archipelago. As we sailed down from the Abaco Islands, dodging coral heads across the Bahama Banks, we finally found ourselves in what can only be described as paradise.

The Enchanting Exumas

Although these islands may be quiet and remote, that’s certainly part of their appeal. There’s a myriad of activities to enjoy here, from exploring quaint island communities to engaging in thrilling watersports.

A Journey to a Wicked Anchorage

Our first stop took us to an island famous for its friendly iguanas, but be wary of their sharp teeth – these are some hungry hippos! Arriving at our wicked Anchorage proved to be a challenging entry as it’s only accessible at low tide and becomes incredibly rocky and rolly at high tide.

As the tides here can rise up to five feet, we knew timing was crucial. The shallow water meant navigating around coral heads required careful maneuvering. But trust us, it’s all worth it when you witness the stunning transformation of this place at low tide.

Navigating Coral Heads and Finding Perfection

Our next challenge was navigating out of this anchorage at high tide. It’s a rocky and rolly exit, but we managed to get through it, with Britney on lookout for coral heads as the water was alarmingly shallow. Despite some scary moments, our persistence paid off.

We decided to look for another spot that offered more protection from the shifting winds. As we surveyed the area, a hidden paradise presented itself – an incredibly beautiful and secluded anchorage that turned out to be one of the few well-protected areas in the Exumas.

Storms, Surprises, and Paradise Found

The approach was a bit dicey due to surrounding coral heads, rocks, and incoming waves crashing against them. It’s definitely a thrilling entry that we won’t forget anytime soon. However, as we made our way through the channel, we were rewarded with breathtaking views of an almost untouched slice of paradise.

The water is exceptionally clear and blue, showcasing vibrant ripples on the sea bed, making it a photographer’s dream location. But the wind shift was coming soon, which left many anchorages exposed, so we had to keep moving before the storm hit.

A Welcoming Beach Experience

Luckily, our chosen anchorage offered respite from the incoming weather, providing a calm day with plenty of sunshine and a beautiful sunset. To make the most of this serene environment, we decided to enjoy an early morning coffee on the beach before other yachts arrived.

With a blend of stunning scenery, exhilarating adventures, and thrilling challenges, our experience in these crystal blue waters of the Exumas has truly been nothing short of extraordinary. And to top it off, we’ve found one of the best-kept secrets in this paradise – an almost untouched anchorage that left us awestruck.

Meeting Challenges Head-On

Navigating these stunning waters has been a testament to our perseverance and our determination to seek out the hidden gems of sailing. While we’ve faced challenges along the way – from high winds and tides to navigating treacherous channels – we continue to enjoy each new experience, always pushing forward.

The Importance of Community Support

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing community. Your support has been instrumental in helping us tackle these challenges, and it’s truly heartwarming to know that our adventures bring joy and inspiration to so many.

So as we set sail for new horizons, continue to follow along on this incredible journey with us. There are still so many amazing stories, experiences, and discoveries yet to come in the Exumas and beyond.

Jackson’s Heartwarming Recovery

In addition to our sailing adventures, we also wanted to update you on Jackson’s recovery from heartworm. Thanks to your continued support and patronage, he’s making progress each day and gaining more energy to explore once again.

As for now, let’s grab a cold one and enjoy the sunset together – the perfect way to end yet another amazing day on the water. Cheers!

A Sailing Odyssey Unforgettable

The Exumas have truly offered us an incredible sailing odyssey, and we’re eager to share more of our adventures with you. Don’t forget to hit that subscribe button for more exhilarating updates on our journey through these picturesque waters.

This week we look for paradise for our first week sailing in the Exumas, Bahamas.

We do find it, but...not without a dangerous narrow rocky entry with crashing waves that opens up to the most beautiful amazing anchorage sailing in the Bahamas with crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and amazing bahamas islands anchored in flat calm water while we hide out from the wind and the swell.
