Barbuda is one of the 2 major islands of the Caribbean nation Antigua and Barbuda. It is known for its pink- and white-sand beaches like reef-lined Spanish Point, and North Beach. In Codrington Lagoon, there is a Frigate Bird Sanctuary. Codrington, is laid-back little island village.
Area: 61.99 mi²
Elevation: 125′
Population: c. 100 (formerly 1,638) (2017)
Largest settlement: Codrington
In this Episode, we explore the secluded beaches of Barbuda, and snorkel and enjoy the peace and tranquility of Coco beach. There’s a high-end beach resort on the south side, that looks awesome. It’s mostly incredible tents with a central bar, pool and dinner space. There’s an open air gym, all kinds of sport toys, and cool bonfire pits set up at ideal spots along the otherwise untouched beach. Guests fly in on a seaplane. They are picked up by a boat that can drive onto the beach. The manager says they opened in January. They are selling lots and plan to develop the beach.
We swam to an outside reef and the snorkeling was pretty good. The wind was light and the swell was pickling up, wrapping unobstructed around the entire island. We’re rocked on our anchor with the sound of the waves crashing on the distant beach.
After a few days in heaven, we fired up the engine and motor-yachted to the main village. One the way, we practiced setting up the spinnaker pole and cruised comfortably down-wind, wing-to-wing!
