Barbuda’s Frigate Bird Colony is the largest in the western hemisphere. Located in the capital of Barbuda, in the large Codrington Lagoon, it is only accessible by boat with a tour guide. In this episode we explore this natural paradise with George, a knowledgeable local host and guide. The Frigate birds nest here and travel between the Caribbean and the Galapagos islands.
It’s a relatively short sail from Antigua to Barbuda. Visitors also Fly-in by helicopter or plane. Ask for George around Cordinton or find another guide to take you on a small boat tour of the sanctuary which contains over 170 species of birds in addition to the more than 5,000 Frigate birds.
The Barbuda Frigate Bird Sanctuary has an estimated population of 100,000 birds.
