Sailing the world can be dangerous. Storms, rogue waves, strong currents, and poorly charted waters. We are constantly forced to confront nature in these risky situations
And not only have I come to terms with that fact, its actually one of my favorite aspects of this lifestyle. There is something elevating about grappling with the harsh, indifferent aspects of nature and reaping the rewards.
But this week we deal with a very different kind of danger, one that I feel much less comfortable with… other boaters, lots and lots of other boaters. For the last couple of weeks we’ve been exploring the Southern Ionian Islands of Greece, which are a bit off the beaten path and not terribly crowded but now that we’re in the Northern Ionian Islands of Greece we find ourselves in one of the most popular cruising grounds in the world and unfortunately due to the delays we experienced by Isabella’s medical appointments, we are here in the busiest time of year. Now if the hoards of boats were simply making these pristine anchorages feel crowded, I wouldn’t mind so much but time and again we find ourselves forced into situations that are down right dangerous. So it begs the question whether visiting one of the worlds most beautiful cruising grounds is worth the trouble.
