Living this far out in the mountains is incredible — but it also means we’re on our own when it comes to protecting our property.
After our generator was stolen, it became clear that being remote doesn’t automatically make you safe. It just means help is a long way away if something goes wrong. So in this episode, I’m finally taking security seriously and putting systems in place to stop a future intruder before they ever get close.
This isn’t about paranoia or turning our land into a fortress. It’s about being realistic, learning from a hard lesson, and protecting the tools and equipment that let us build this homestead and document the process.
I walk through my security strategy in order of priority — explaining why each step matters and showing exactly what I’m installing as I go. If you live on a rural property, store tools on site, or are building far from town, this is the side of homesteading people don’t talk about enough.
