This week, we bring in the big machines and launch a massive excavation project—moving tons of dirt to carve out a build site on our steep mountain property. With flat land nearly impossible to find in the Smokies, we took a gamble buying this ridge-heavy lot. But now that excavation is in full swing, we’re finally seeing that gamble pay off.
Along the way, I get the chance to learn how to operate a skid steer and jump in to help move dirt myself. It’s one of our biggest work weeks yet—and the transformation is wild.
