This week marks a major milestone for our mountain home: we are finally getting the structure dried in. We’re diving deep into two critical systems that transform a construction site into a functional home—high-performance windows and a smart, budget-friendly HVAC solution.
The “Ultimate” Window Solution We’re installing European-style tilt-and-turn windows that are a game-changer for the American market. These aren’t standard vinyl frames; they feature internal steel reinforcements for incredible dimensional stability. Most importantly for a high-efficiency build, the multi-point locking system squeezes the sash against triple gaskets to create a virtually airtight seal.
Smart HVAC: Performance vs. Price For heating and cooling, we opted for a 3-zone mini-split system. While central air is the standard, this installation took only 1.5 hours compared to an estimated 3-day ductwork installation. We’re also sharing how we’re keeping the bathrooms warm without the massive expense of radiant floor heating.
