Greece is in the middle of what could be the longest heat wave in recorded history and wildfires have cropped up all over the country. We have been extremely fortunate to have not been affected by these wildfires but we are left trying to survive the brutal heat. In my home country of the United States, roughly 87% of people have some form of Air Conditioning. But on a sailboat without AC, when the wind dies, the sun shines and even the ocean starts to feel hot there is no escape. The air gets heavy, Clothing sticks to your body. You get irritable and just trying to concentrate can be a struggle. So this week we’re going over what we do to stay sane while living through a heat wave on the water. What strategies we use, what gear we install, and how we attempt to escape it. And we also venture ashore in search of shade and a cool breeze to see how people here on Zakynthos have thrived on this hot yet beautiful island for thousands of years.
