Sailing enthusiasts and avid cruisers alike have often pondered if a bigger boat translates to a safer and more enjoyable voyage. In this episode of Sailing Project Atticus, the hosts dive deep into the features, safety aspects, and overall value of the Kraken 50 yacht, a luxurious sailboat that screams seaworthiness.
Exploring the Kraken 50’s Seaworthy Features
The heart of the Kraken 50 lies in its innovative design, specifically engineered to minimize risk while ensuring maximum comfort. The unique zero-keel design boasts exceptional writing moments and ensures that the boat cuts through waves like a hot knife through butter.
Staying Safe with Innovative Design
A closer look at this sailboat unveils its robust construction, equipped with an inbuilt steel beam to protect the V element of the rudder, and a watertight compartment designed to store specialty sails on the bow. These features exemplify Kraken Yacht’s commitment to providing a safe vessel for adventurous souls.
Inside the Kraken 50
Above and below deck, the Kraken 50 is replete with thoughtful design elements that elevate your sailing experience. With a fully equipped navigation station, comfortable seating options for single-handed sailing, and ample storage spaces, this yacht is as practical as it is stylish.
Comfort Meets Performance
The sleek design of the Kraken 50 combines the elegance of a cruiser with the agility and speed of a racer. Its spacious cabins offer cozy living quarters that feel more like home, ensuring a comfortable journey even in the most challenging weather conditions.
Experience Kraken’s Commitment to Quality
In addition to the Kraken 50, Dick Bont and his team at Kraken Yachts are expanding their production capabilities. By establishing sites in Poland and Turkey, they aim to satisfy increasing global demand for high-quality sailboats. With these expansions, it seems that the dream of owning a seaworthy vessel is becoming more attainable than ever.
The Journey Continues
Sailing Project Atticus leaves us pondering on whether the Kraken 50 is truly worth its price tag. While it’s clear that the vessel is designed with adventure seekers and bluewater cruisers in mind, potential buyers should consider if their budget aligns with this high-quality option.
A Word from Dick Bont
In the end, as shared by Kraken Yachts founder Dick Bont, embracing adventures is what it’s all about. Embracing life outside your comfort zone and not harboring regrets – this could be a lesson for us all in pursuit of our dreams.
Join the Adventure
The Kraken 50 may not suit everyone’s budget or needs, but one thing remains crystal clear – if you’re in search of a reliable sailboat that caters to comfort and seaworthiness without sacrificing adventure, this yacht could be the perfect companion for your next epic journey across the open seas.

Sailing around the world is risky and no matter how hard you try, you’re never going to completely eliminate that risk. But what if you could buy a boat that eliminated as much risk as humanly possible, without compromising comfort.
Well then you’d be buying a very expensive boat
Designing and building a Bluewater boat is always a compromise between three things; Seaworthiness, comfort, and affordability. For most of human history, Seaworthiness was by far the most important factor when choosing a boat for long distance voyaging. But today the vast majority of new “bluewater” boats are designed from the ground up, to be sold at boat shows. Seaworthiness is something that is not very marketable because green sailors find it hard to recognize at a glance. So boats that value seaworthiness struggle to compete when their interiors are smaller and their price tags are bigger, than all the other boats at the show.
But there is one up and coming boat builder that refuses to even go to boat shows for one simple reason. Kraken yachts, lead by it’s founder, Dick Beaumont, have decided that they will stop at nothing to build the most seaworthy, and yet very comfortable, long distance blue water cruiser in the world. This week we had the chance to tour the Kraken yard here in Turkey as well as to do a full review of their flagship model, the Kraken 50.
So what exactly do you get when you spend over a million dollars on a bluewater boat?
And, the question that’s been in our minds ever since we did this tour, is it time for us to upgrade?
