Building the First Wall — But So Close to a Steep Bank Could Backfire

This week we built the first wall of our home — but it’s going in right up against a steep bank, and that adds a layer of risk we can’t ignore.
The site isn’t ideal but this structure is going to do a lot for us over the next few years, and that forced us into a compromise we’ve thought long and hard about. Working with a foundation crew, I learned how to lay block and we committed to a decision that becomes permanent the moment concrete goes in.
Once this wall is filled, there’s no undo — so we need to get this right.
