Our fix for a broken Vitrifrigo Marine Refrigerator on our Leopard 48 – Sailing PILAR
Not so much fun when your marine refrigerator just stops working. Luckily, we had not provisioned yet, so we did not lose any food, but we did lose 2 days trying to find the right repair person who knew what the problem was just by listening to us. We drove to meet him to get a part, which we then installed and prayed that it would work. Success! All is good.
Thanks to our dear friend Bill Chinnis for his troubleshooting assistance and Mike Roberts of Sea Dog #Marine Service in Charleston for his super valuable advice and for having the part!
We get a lot of questions on diagnosis. We were in contact with a refrigeration professional who diagnosed the control unit from what we told him. Our symptoms were similar and we also determined the compressor would click to come on but never start. You can hear the compressor and feel the vibration if it is running. If you don’t feel it, it may be the controller. Our specialist said the controller is very often the culprit and suggested we buy a spare. It worked for us and we have a spare. You can buy them on Amazon.
