HOW TO: #LEOPARD48 BOAT LEAK REPAIR - GENOA TRACK SYSTEMS REBEDDING

#catamaransailing #leopard48catamaran #sailing #leopard48 #genoa #boatleak #rebedding

We had a guest stay on our boat who discovered a leak from rain coming from the ceiling in their hallway. This was coming from our upper deck – through the ceiling panels and making it’s way out on the side of the panel.

After investigating, we determined that the water was coming in from the genoa tracks on our upper deck. We noticed staining from under the track one day while sailing. Upon removing our ceiling panels, we discovered staining on the underside of the panels as well.

Watch as we undertake the fix for this issue – with what we felt was the right way. Appears that this was an issue before, but it had never been fixed properly. Special thanks to West Marine on Savannah highway for their extensive Epoxy knowledge sharing.

TIMELINE:
0:00 Introduction
0:30 The Problem on the outside: Deck Leak through genoa track pooled between fiberglass layers in the balsa core.
1:38 The Problem from the inside: Rotted Balsa core stained our ceiling panels and eventually water leaked through.
2:23 Exterior Solution: Remove track, route out holes to remove rotted balsa core, let dry, fill holes with epoxy, let dry, redrill holes, rebed genoa track, test sail.
5:47 Interior screw holes are in fairly good shape.
6:22 What rotted balsa core looks like.
7:40 Epoxy process to fill screw holes to prevent water intrusion.
10:05 Interior protection with gorilla tape!
11:47 Removing interior tape reveals only minor epoxy came through.
12:23 Re-drill holes now through strengthened epoxy.
12:42 Rescrew genoa track on – 26 holes…
13:17 The finished job.
