Welcome aboard, as we embark on an incredible sailing adventure with Captain aboard the elegant sailboat ‘Lady Liselot’. This journey takes us to the heart of Dordrecht, a beautiful and bustling Dutch city where the rivers and canals come alive with commercial barge traffic. Our voyage is filled with unique sights, interesting navigational challenges, and the rich culture of Dutch waterways.

Introduction to Dordrecht

Dordrecht, known for its vibrant city life, offers a plethora of sights and sounds. Here, you’ll see one of the major hubs of commercial barge traffic in the Netherlands, bustling with vessels moving goods to and from various parts of the country.

Boarding ‘Lady Liselot’

Captain welcomes us aboard the elegant Lady Liselot, a perfect vessel to explore Dordrecht’s waters. Despite not being at sea, we find ourselves in a world rich with maritime history and lively river activity.

Navigating Through Barge Traffic

As we sail through Dordrecht’s rivers, it’s immediately apparent how busy the waterways are. A multitude of barges from various parts such as Dordrecht Area St, Merrie, and even Dintel, provide an impressive sight to behold. The current moving towards sea adds an extra layer of dynamism to our journey.

Interaction with Vessel Traffic Center

To navigate these busy waters safely, communication with the local vessel traffic center is crucial. They manage the flow of barge and sea traffic to ensure a smooth passage for all vessels. In our journey, we experience first-hand how Captain coordinates with them, adjusting our speed accordingly.

Exploring Geographical Significance

We navigate through notable geographical areas such as the Crossing Beneden Merwede, a confluence of rivers which signifies the merging of the Noord and the Maas Rivers. Notably, we also pass by cities like Zwijndrecht, Papendrecht, and Dordrecht itself, each offering its unique charm and historical significance.

Conclusion

Our journey aboard the ‘Lady Liselot’ concludes at a natural stopping point, having traversed through some of the most picturesque and historic waterways in Dordrecht. The adventure leaves us with a profound appreciation for the rich maritime heritage and the importance of collaboration among different stakeholders to keep these vibrant waterways alive.

Call to Action

If you’re captivated by the sights and sounds of Dordrecht’s maritime culture, be sure to check out the next video in this series for more thrilling adventures aboard ‘Lady Liselot’. Until then, happy sailing!

Whilst cruising the tidal river Dordtse Kil, I hear sounds I only heard at sea. And then when I am in the Dordrecht area all of a sudden the operator of the Vessel Traffic Center has some busy moments and we are part of it.

Cams aboard Lady Liselot. Check them out on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3P5jFxP (but the silly thing is: these https://amzn.to/3T1AYB2 almost are alike).

The 4 camera's I use to produce my outdoor footage, are so called PTZ - P(an) T(ilt) Z(oom). Zoom, I only use on the rear camera, when I am underway. As you have seen I use the pan and tilt a lot. And in the dark they produce a great (short view) infrared image. I even can navigate in a marina at night on my cams.
Since they all are so called "IP camera's", each have an unique (hardwired) IP address (no DNS) in my network.

This channel follows a format: "Join Henk-Jan, whilst he cruises on motorvessel Lady Liselot through The Netherlands and a little further". That's it. This automatically means: no boat tour and no boat jobs. These subjects do not fit the format. So, I aim to give you a feel for what life's like aboard for me and hope you enjoy it, perhaps relate to it or maybe even learn something. But it's simply my story and the way I do things. Nothing more, nothing less.

Nederlands.
