In this episode, we sail from Terciera to Sao Miguel in the Azores.
I (Khiara) decided to be captain for the day and as soon as we hoisted a sail, something went wrong!
After dealing with the issue in a very captainly manner, we then sailed the 90 mile stretch between the islands in beautiful but calming conditions.
We arrived in the morning and the next day set off to explore the island. Being a lover of rosy lee, our first stop was Cha Gorreana, (most likely) Europe’s oldest and largest tea plantation.
From there we set off discovering lakes, bubbling hot springs and beautiful island views as well as some of it’s amusing inhabitants!
A few day later, after finishing with the fun and frivolity of exploring a new island, we got down to some work… boat work! Which has been few and far between for the last few weeks so we actually kind of enjoyed doing it. We got to work installing a repaired radar that got delivered to the marina, and to see whether it finally worked and if we’d have radar capability in future!

Sailing Millennial Falcon

What do you do when the whole world seems hell bent on getting a mortgage, buying houses and procreating but your not quite ready to join them? Well, we decided to scrounge every penny we had, buy a boat and chase the adventure of a lifetime in the hope of challenging the assumption that prolonged world travel is only for the mega rich and the retired. Khiara and I (Adam) are from Melbourne, Australia. We bought the Millennial Falcon, a 1981 Tayana 42, in Port Charlotte, Florida in February of 2018 and have been repairing her in many weird and wonderful places ever since! It's been one hell of an adventure so far and we hope to continue for as long and as far as we can! We saved for many years to realise our goal. Watching other sailing channels, in addition to brightening our work days, gave us the hope and drive to continue saving and eventually take the plunge! So please join us on our adventure. I hope we make you laugh and can prove to some of you that it can be done!
